Royal Fantasy Can Rule in Jockey Club Stakes
THE big guns in horseracing will make their way to Arlington on Friday which should make for an interesting day. Western Cape trainers Mike Bass, Justin Snaith and Greg Ennion will all saddle runners in the R120 000 Jockey Club Stakes over 2000m but it would come as no surprise should one of the local horses take first prize.
Snaith fields Admiral’s Daughter, Bold Casey and Polzeath. The stable elect could well be Admiral’s Daughter who has faced stronger fields in the past. Her latest effort was a fourth behind Gilded Minaret and the six-year-old previously finished unplaced behind Sangria Girl in a feature race over 2400m at Greyville.
Ennion-trained Sangria Girl (2kg better off with Admiral’s Daughter, who was slowly away and raced wide that day) was outclassed by Front House in the KZN Oaks last time out.
Bass saddles Cymbeline, who will be partnered by champion Cape jockey Karl Neisius. This five-year-old mare was second to Sangria Girl in the Queen Palm and meets her rival on the same terms. She also finished two lengths behind Admiral’s Daughter (0.5kg better off) in the race won by Gilded Minaret over 2000m, but races at Arlington for the first time. There is no doubt that she has a clear Eachway chance.
Royal Fantasy looks best of the local contingent. She makes her local debut, having transferred from Geoff Woodruff to Alan Greeff, and travels over 2000m for the first time. Being out of a Fort Wood mare, she should stay the journey - especially at the easy Arlington course - and in-form Andrew Fortune will be in the irons.
Royal Fantasy has a third to Gilded Minaret over 1400m to her credit and put up a cracking effort when second behind brilliant Dancer’s Daughter in the Majorca Stakes over 1600m back in January. She gets the nod but won’t have it all her own way in what appears a well-matched line-up.
