Appel Au Maitre Lands Gr.3 Marit Sveaas Minneløp

Appel Au Maitre was sent off as favourite for the NOK 1,500,000 (US$285,000) Gr.3 Marit Sveaas Minnelop at Øvrevoll this afternoon and duly replied with a one length win over fellow French-bred Tertullus.

Peas And Carrots, trained in Sweden, and already a three-time black type winner in Scandinavia this season, finished a further length away in third. A win today would have seen the Danish-bred take his chances in the Gr.2 Prix Dollar at Longchamp on 4 October however trainer Lennart Reuterskiöld Jr. has yet to confirm his plans.

Michael Bell’s Gr.3 Mooresbridge Stakes winner and recent Gr.3 International Stakes runner-up, Regime, and the lone overseas runner, finished sixth.

The Norsk Derby, open only to Scandinavian-trained horses, threw up a minor surprise as Theatrical Award, winner of four of his last five starts, ran out a 3½ lengths winner over Swedish Derby winner Swing That Cat. Catfight, like the winner trained in Norway, finished third a further half-length adrift.

There was at least some comfort for Michael Bell who saddled the winner of the Listed Erik O Steens Memorial over 1½ miles. After having finished third in the Italian Oaks Dancing Abbie took on a decent field and held off the second-favourite Hot Fudge to claim her first win at black type level by one length. Novasky, trained by Tommy Gustafsson in Stockholm, claimed third half a length back.
