Devenir, runner-up in the Clasico Alberto Vial Infante (Chi-G1) on June 15, rallied home to land his first stakes victory on Friday in the 102nd edition of the Clasico Polla de Potrillos (Chi-G1).

The Clasico Polla de Potrillos is the first leg of the resurrected Club Hipico de Santiago Quadruple Crown series along with the Polla de Potrancas (Chi-G1) for three-year-old fillies on August 24.

A chestnut Until Sundown colt, Devenir closed from well off the pace under Luis Torres to post a head victory over Group 1 winner Bamburi in a driving finish.

Bamburi finished 1 ¼ lengths in front of third-place finisher Chevalier in the Clasico Polla de Potrillos, which was contested under a steady downpour. Pacesetter and Group 1 winner Indy Boy faded in the stretch and finished next to last in the 18-horse field.

Trained by Domingo Matte, Devenir covered 1,700 meters (8.45 furlongs) on soft turf in 1:50.72 to register his third win in 15 career starts for owners Joaquin Morande and Pablo Baraona’s Stud Nilahue.

A three-time group stakes-placed winner as a juvenile, Devenir entered off a 2 1/4-length allowance victory on grass at Club Hipico de Santiago on July 21.

The Club Hipico de Santiago Quadruple Crown, which awards a horse a $500,000 bonus for sweeping the series, continues with the Nacional Ricardo Lyon (Chi-G1) on October 5.

Bred by Morande’s Haras Picoltuè, Devenir is out of the Early Gray mare Depurada.
