Swing That Cat Wins Swedish Derby

It is not every day that a Listed race carries prizemoney of €225,000 but this afternoon’s Swedish Derby could boast just that.

A field of fifteen lined up for the 1½ miles event on the Jägersro dirt and despite decent competition from both Denmark and Norway the spoils stayed at home with the favourite, Swing That Cat.

The event became a two-horse race which ended in locally-based trainer Fredrik Reuterskiöld scoring a one-two with Swing That Cat, a $10,000 Cat Thief colt from Keeneland, and Swedish-bred Tertio Bloom.

Sir Mark Prescott was out of luck in the main event when his Points Of View ran a disappointing 13th but he had already gained compensation earlier in the day as Sourire, running in the colours of Kirsten Rausing, lifted the 8½f Listed Margareta Wettermarks Minneslöpning and added valuable black-type to her page at the second time of asking.

There was a minor upset in the third Listed of the day when Fujisan, previously in training with Mark Johnston, won the Zawawi Cup over six furlongs.
