Nunthorpe Next for Borderlescott

Robin Bastiman is set to allow Borderlescott to take his chance in the Group One Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 22.

The popular sprinter went close for the third year in succession in the Stewards Cup on Saturday and is likely to be rewarded with a tilt at the top flight on the Knavesmire.

Bastiman saddled the six-year-old to win handicaps at York in 2005 and 2006 and is looking forward to returning to his local track with his stable star.

“I think he’s going to run in the Nunthorpe. We might be aiming a bit high but the owner wants to go there and he’s won the last twice he’s run at York,” said the North Yorkshire handler.

“We’ve run him in Group Ones before over a stiff six at Ascot and Newmarket. He’s probably not that class but I think we’ll give it a go because all these top sprinters run in and out all the time and he’s genuine enough.

“He’ll be somewhere knocking about and he would probably pick up some prize money. It’s only down the road for him as well, so if I’m happy with him he’ll go.

“He wants at least three weeks between his runs, we found that out, but we’re only 20 minutes away so there’ll be little travelling involved.”
