Peas And Carrots Chases More Group Honours

Lennart Reuterskiöld Jr. will go into this afternoon’s meeting at Klampenborg a confident trainer as he saddles the favourite for the Gr.3 Scandinavian Open Championship over 1½ miles.

Six of the thirteen runners are back to improve on last year’s performance in the Danish feature, none more so than Reuterskiöld’s Peas And Carrots who is bidding for a fifth consecutive black-type win and second at Gr.3 level. He was fifth here last year and although he comes off a win at Klampenborg, he has not raced further than ten furlongs this season.

Reuterskiöld also runs Jagodin third in a very mediocre Gr.3 over two miles in Germany last month, and Hot Fudge, twice a winner this term.

The race has lost some of its appeal following the early-morning withdrawals of Norwegian-trained group winner Appel Au Maitre, and Alpino Chileno.

It is not every day that a son of Kingmambo out of a French classic winner makes its way to Scandinavia but Chinese Mandarin is just that exception. Previously with Aidan O’Brien for whom he won a lowly maiden at Wexford he found his way to Erna van Doorn’s yard in Stockholm and has not been out of the money from four starts this year. He has won twice from ten to twelve furlongs including a valuable handicap on the dirt at Jägersro and looks to be the biggest threat to Peas And Carrots.
