Haras Santa Maria de Araras Lands G.1 Double

Really Winner capped off a Group 1 double on Saturday for prominent international owner-breeder Julio Bozano’s Haras Santa Maria de Araras and trainer Roberto Morgado Jr. when she charged down the stretch to win the Grande Premio Roberto e Nelson Grimaldi Seabra (Brz-G1) at Hipodromo La Gavea.

Under vigorous urging from Bruno Reis, Really Winner rallied boldly in the stretch to overhaul pacesetter Hilaris in the final stride. Blessed Maid closed from well of the pace to finish 1½ lengths back in third in the 15-horse field. Haras Santa Maria de Araras’s Right Idea, winner in March of the Grande Premio Diana (Brz-G1), finished fourth.

Really Winner covered the 2,000-meter (9.94 furlong) race in 2:00.26 for her first Group 1 victory and fourth overall in eight career starts.

Really Winner is by Public Purse and is out of the winning Roy mare Just a Winner. She is a half sister to stakes winner and Group 1-placed Que Victoria

Earlier on the card, the same connections won the Grande Premio Major Suckow (Brz-G1) with Requebra.

The consistent four-year-old Put It Back filly closed boldly in deep stretch to defeat Group 1 winner Taludo by a hard-fought neck. Estrela Energia’s four-year-old filly Sicilia finished another length back in the nine-horse field after briefly leading in the stretch.

Runner-up in last year’s edition of the race, Requebra covered the 1,000-meters (4.97 furlongs) in :55.93 on the turf rated as soft to register her first Group 1 victory and fifth overall in ten career starts.

Requebra is out of the Brazilian group-placed winner Talisa, by Lode. Requebra is a half sister to Group 1-stakes placed Occhiata.
