After the scratching of Larella the .3 Grosser Preis der Jungheinrich Gabelstapler field was reduced to nine in an important trial for the Preis der Diana, the German Oaks.

And the result was somewhat unexpected with the Werner Baltromei-trained landing the prize with ease.

Irish runner Flure De Leise was quick to get the lot away at a decent pace for the eleven-furlong contest. She was tracked all the while by the G.2 Diana Trial runner-up Splash Mountain. Alex Pantall’s recent Listed winner Yarastar followed in behind as Lady marian and Umirage held the fort out the back.

With a half-mile to run Lady Marian and Dominique Boeuf began their rapid transition towards the head of the field as the nine runners took closer order.

Entering the straight the runners spread out across the field and Flure De Leise led the charge. She was soon passed by Salve Germania but one horse was soon to stand out on the sodden Hamburg turf.

With two furlongs to run Lady Marian had he lead which she extended in a matter of strides and went on to win by three lengths. Ashantee, recent winner at Strasbourg, was a surprising second with impressive maiden winner Umirage taking third.

Goathemala and Salve Germania were fourth and fifth respectively.

From five starts over two seasons Lady Marian had managed to place just once. She was not disgraced when fifth to subsequent G.2 Prix Malleret winner Treat Gently at Longchamp in May, but today’s performance places her in an enviable position for a start in the German Oaks at Dusseldorf on 3rd August.
