Musidora Turns $1 Million & Returns to Hayes

Group winning filly Musidora will return to the David Hayes stable and be set for feature races during the Melbourne Spring Carnival following her sale for $1 million at today’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Melbourne based bloodstock agent Mark Pilkington purchased the three-year-old for the even million after a bidding frenzy around the ring.

Sold without a reserve to dissolve a partnership, Musidora attracted an opening bid of $200,000 - but within seconds her price had hit $500,000.

Musidora, by Rock of Gibraltar, has raced on just seven occasions for three wins and has already earned over $160,000 in prizemoney.

“She’s a filly who David (Hayes) has a very high opinion of,” Pilkington said.

“And he thinks there’s a very bright future ahead for her before eventually heading to stud.”

“Group winning mares off the track are in high demand and with the prices being paid for well bred yearling fillies, a million for her looks a good investment.”

“She was being sold to dissolve a partnership and we will offer her to her former owners, but we have a number of stable clients who would love to be members of a new syndicate.”

Pilkington said the Group Three winner of the Vanity Stakes at Flemington would be set for feature mare races during the spring carnival later this year.

“David thinks she can measure up in the big mares races later in the year,” Pilkington noted.

As well as being a top prospect in her own right Musidora comes with a cracking pedigree.

She is one of three stakes performers from the regally related Bering mare Nice Dancing.

Her family includes Group One winning sire sensations Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago.

The second session of the National Broodmare Sale continues.
