Rouget’s Ripple to Be Aimed at Epsom
Jean-Claude Rouget announced yesterday that Ripple (Rock Of Gibraltar) is to be aimed at the Epsom Derby [7th June].
Runner-up by a short neck to Prospect Wells in the G.2 Prix Greffulhe last Monday, Ripple has won two of his three starts this year and accounted for the scalp of Prospect Wells, when giving away weight, in April. He is owned by the Aga Khan.
Rouget commented, “He is better going left-handed than right. In addition, I think he will get the mile and a half. At Epsom, you have to be able to go all the way.
“I had the idea in my head before running him in the Greffulhe and the test was decisive. I also think that there is no real standout this year at Epsom.”
It is likely that the ultimate decision will rest with the Aga Khan. His manager in France, Georges Rimaud, said, “the horse was entered along with others from the stable but no decision has yet been taken.”
