Darley Makes Offer for AJC Oaks Winner Rena’s Lady

Fresh from the largest purchase in thoroughbred history Darley Australia are still on the acquisition trail with a reported extensive seven figure offer for 2007 AJC Oaks winner Rena’s Lady.

Darley finalised their takeover of Woodlands Stud last week for close to $500 million, and they are still on the hunt for well-credentialed mares to complement their stallion ranks that now include the successful Woodlands Stud sires Commands, Canny Lad, Octagonal, and young sire Lonhro, as well as their own world-class line up.

Rena’s Lady, by the top Danehill sire Arena out of the Rivotious mare Boisterous Lady, won the AJC Oaks in a stellar run of form that included the Group III Adrian Knox Stakes over 2400m at Randwick as her lead in race to the Oaks.

She did not return to that level of form this season, and her last race was an unplaced run in the listed Epona Stakes over 1900m at Randwick on April 12th.

Overall her race record was three wins from 29 starts, with three placings and stakes of $515,695.

The offer for Rena’s Lady, reportedly for midway between $1 and $2 million, is subject to a veterinary check.
