Lim’s Fighter Out of KrisFlyer Sprint
Local galloper Lim’s Fighter has been scratched from the $1million KrisFlyer International Sprint over 1200 metres on Sunday.
Trainer John Meagher had faced an uphill battle to get the gelding to the post for Sunday’s event, eventually succumbing to a bout of bronchitis.
Meagher sent Lim’s Fighter from the barriers on the Polytrack this morning and the gelding was timed to run 40.8 seconds for his 600m split.
Following the gallop, Meagher sent the gelding to be scoped where it was discovered he had a “pretty serious bout of bronchitis”.
“He didn’t scope out clean after galloping this morning,” said Meagher. “It’s disappointing but it’s much better to know now.
“It’s in the horse’s best interest that he doesn’t run.”
Meagher said Lim’s Fighter’s owner Lim Siah Mong was happy to scratch the gelding.
“The horse wouldn’t run to his best and we didn’t want a repeat of his last effort,” Meagher said. “So under those circumstances, Mr Lim was happy to scratch the horse.”
Lim’s Fighter had been in sparkling form prior to a disappointing seventh behind Waikato in a 1200 metre handicap on May 4, where he pulled-up with “respiratory distress”.
