Dirty Scope Explains Marjalina Flop
Kevin Prendergast is unsure if Marjalina will be ready in time for the Juddmonte Oaks after the filly scoped dirty on Thursday.
The Marju filly was looking to book her place in the Epsom Classic in Wednesday’s Blue Wind Stakes at Naas but she underperformed, trailing in last of the seven runners.
Prendergast had her examined on her return to the yard and the subsequent dirty scope has forced the trainer to put all plans on hold, including the Classic on June 6.
“She’s not come out of it well and she had a bit of a problem during the race,” explained the Irish handler.
“We scoped her this morning and it was pretty bad so we won’t be seeing her out for a while.”
Having edged out Savethisdanceforme in the Park Express Stakes at the Curragh on her last start Marjalina had been 16-1 for the Oaks. Should she fail to improve in time for Epsom the filly has the option of going for the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Audi Pretty Polly Stakes at the Irish Derby meeting.
