War Chant Colt Tops Goffs Flat Breeze-Up

There were no fireworks this afternoon at the inaugural Goffs flat breeze-up sale at Dundalk however the sale can boast a sell-rate of almost 65% for its debut.

Willie Browne’s Mocklershill Stables consigned the top lot of the day, a War Chant colt [lot 23] out of a half-sister to Group winners Hawkster and Silver Lane, which sold to Alfred Tse’s Yuma Bloodstock for €67,000. The colt is destined for a career in Hong Kong.

Bansha House Stables of Con Marnane represented the largest consignment in the catalogue and he duly featured on the results page. Lot 37, a colt by the venerable Invincible Spirit, sold to Bobby O’Ryan for €43,000. A few lots later [30] Marnane also sold a Choisir colt for €40,000.

Jamie Osborne, who picked up two juveniles during the session, purchased lot 43, a Kyllachy colt out of a half-sister to the perennial multiple group-winning sprinter The Trader. Consigned by Pat Doyle’s Suirview Stables, he was sold for €42,000.

Goffs agent Gerry Hogan spent €40,000 on the first lot of the day, Willy Wicked, a Toccet colt consigned by Knockgraffon Stables. He was purchased for trainer Sean Curran, trainer of Iris De Balme, winner of last month’s Scottish National.

Goffs CEO Henry Beeby commented, “We are delighted with the strong trade witnessed today at Dundalk. The sale attracted an excellent crowd and we sold horses to Hong Kong, America, Italy, Greece, Spain, France, the UK and of course Ireland.

“There is little doubt in our minds that this sale has a very bright future and we are grateful to our vendors for providing an excellent first catalogue that allowed us to return some highly respectable figures”.
