Elletelle Unlikely for Newmarket Guineas

Elletelle, winner of the G.2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, is unlikely to line up for the English 1,000 Guineas on 4th May, reports TDN.

Trainer Ger Lyons said of his three year-old, “She’s okay but I’m not sure she will make the English Guineas.

“The weather has held her back a bit and, although she’s fit, she’s not as heavy as I’d like.” Lyons is considering the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on 25th May as a fall-back option. “Johnny [Murtagh] feels she should have been third in the Cheveley Park, so that puts her bang there in any of the Classics if she’s trained on, and the question mark is the mile.

“She’s not going to run unless we’re 100% happy with her.”

Elletelle (Elnadim) won her maiden at Leopardstown last June, two weeks before her Ascot win.

Three weeks later she finished 1¼ lengths third in the G.2 Cherry Hinton Stakes before again placing third, this time to the high-class Saoirse Abu in the G.1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

After 1½ months off she finished an unlucky sixth in the G.1 Cheveley Park Stakes, won by French filly Natagora. She has not run since.
