Medaglia D’Oro Filly Tops Arqana Breeze-Up Sale

The Arqana Breeze-Up sale at Saint-Cloud is boasting a new top price this evening.

Marc-Antoine Berghracht purchased the highest-priced lot, #124, a Medaglia D’Oro filly out of the Listed winner Fasateen, a half-sister to Classic winner Hatoof, for €220,000. This was just one of a dozen lots sold by new consignor Haras du Sabouas.

Berghracht also signed for the second top lot, going to €90,000 for #100, an Anabaa colt consigned by Kilminfoyle House Stud.

Paul Basquin’s Sabouas was again in the limelight as trainer Jean de Roualle went to €90,000 for a Verglas filly out of a three-parts sister to Princess of Wales’s Stakes winner Wagon Master.

Mags O’Toole, no stranger to France and Saint-Cloud, purchased lot 128, a Gulch colt offered by Grove Stud for €85,000. And John Hammond bought Mark Dwyer’s Celtic Swing filly, lot 133, for €82,000.

While there was very little shift in figures from last year’s sale, there was a notable presence of European buyers, ranging from the habitual UK, Irish, German and Italians to Spanish, Greek and Bulgarian.

Of the vendors the Haras de Sabouas topped the list with twelve sold for €620,000 but the next four consignors, in terms of gross, came from either the UK or Ireland.

Turnover for the breeze-up sale was almost identical to 2007. The average was up six points to €35,034 and the median increased just shy of 8% to €28,000.
